Links

To make a clickable text link insert the text in a text box, highlight the text and click the link icon and enter the link URL or select a page in your site. You can make an image clickable in a similar manner.

If you make a link to another page and select the page from the list that you see it opens in the same tab. If you copy the URL of the page and use that for the link, it opens in a new tab.

Links to external destinations always open in a new tab.

Link to Home Page  (opens in same tab)     Copied URL (opens in new tab)

All external links go via Google's URL redirector to protect visitors from arriving at malware, phishing or hacked sites. When you do this from the published version of the site (not the editor) the redirect is automatic and almost not noticeable. When you use the link via the editor it's a manual redirect  (more noticeable) - this does not happen for viewers.

You cannot turn this off, it's part of the built in security of new Google Sites.

We can now embed sites in iframes by using the Embed URL option. If the site allows embedding and its URL begins with https you will have the option to embed the whole page, or you can select to show only the site information and a link.

Google doesn't allow iframing of sites that aren't on HTTPS to prevent browser mixed-content errors.

Mailto Link

<--This is a dummy link

1. Type the text you want in a text box

2. Highlight the text and click the link icon (looks like a chain link)

3. Enter the email address

Note that if you enter an email address the link is automatically formatted correctly by adding 'mailto:' at the beginning.

Note that if a viewer does not have an email program configured in their browser, the link will not do anything.
