You can upload images directly to your Google site. There are a couple of things to be aware of:
- If you upload a large image (such one that may come from your camera) the picture may not be displayed. You may see just a blank square with possibly a red X on it. This
image must be downloaded each time the page is viewed and if your
Internet connection slows down your web browser will timeout and display
the missing image icon. The solution is to re-size images before
inserting them. It is usually fine to do this unless you need to present
your viewers with really high resolution images for printing purposes. Also realize that such a large picture will take several minutes for the viewer to download before it appears so you should reduce the quality as well as pixel size. See note
- Uploading pictures to your site will rapidly eat up the web space allocated to you. Uploading your images to Picasa Web Albums and inserting them from there will help prevent this. Images uploaded to Picasa Web Albums can be no larger than 20MB and are restricted to 50 megapixels or less. In many cases you will not need to resize your images before uploading them to Picasa but you may have to reduce the quality to meet these restrictions. When you insert them into your website you will be able to select the size you want. Examples below.
| Small 200x133
|| Medium 320x213
|| Large 400x267

When you click on the pictures you will be sent to your Web Album to see the full size picture. If you don't want viewers to be sent to your album, after inserting your PicasaWeb photos go to the album, view a full size picture, right-click on it, view properties and capture its URL. Back on your site, edit the page, click on the photo, on the Link line click change and insert the link you copied. Note that on the photos above the small photo link does not go to the album.
Since PicasaWeb is no more clicking on an image may give a file not found error. See this page.
You can also insert a Picasa Web Slideshow. Use Insert and select Picasa Web Slideshow.
People can go directly to your web album by clicking on the center of the slideshow or you can include a link
Resize Your Images and Reduce File Size: In the past I used Photoshop Elements but now I use mostly online editors. Some examples are: GIMP, iPiccy, pixlr, Canva and Aviary.
